H&M x Maison Martin Margiela

Next designer collaboration confirmed!
After teaming up with major fashion labels, H&M sent out a press realese confirming their next collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela. The Swedish fast fashion retailer revealed that the one-off collection from their guest designer will launch in 230 stores worldwide and online for men and women on November 15th, 2012.

“Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this radical collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment,” says creative adviser Margareta Van den Bosch of H&M.

Maison Martin Margiela was founded in the 80’s by reclusive belgian designer Martin Margiela, who was usually labeled as the seventh member of the original avant-group of fashion designers called Antwerp six. He transformed the standards set by the time with his edgy aesthetic and implemented an experimental approach to his work which included the mix of conceptual art and scientific methodology.

Always keeping under the radar, the belgian designer discreetly left the company in 2009. It is fair to say that such a partnership might not have happened under the reign of Margiela himself. But since he left, the Brand was headed by an in-hose team of designers for the majority stake holder, not other that Diesel founder Renzo Rosso.

“We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all,” said the statement from the French label.
