Nicolas Ghesquière to Leave Balenciaga

The end of an era

Nicolas Ghesquière is parting ways with Balenciaga, the Paris house he transformed into a modern luxury brand, bringing the label huge levels of commercial and industry acclaim and opening it to a new wider audience.

Both Ghesquière (who was 26 when he joined Balenciaga in 1997 ) and the brand have confirmed that they made a "joint decision to end their working relationship" after 15 years, which will culminate on November 30.

Under Cristóbal Balenciaga’s own leadership, the brand was known for its haute couture rigor and its sculptural shapes. He closed the house in 1968 and retired. Ghesquière, an incomparable creative talent, is one of the most critically acclaimed and influential designers working today. He's turned Balenciaga into a brand that is both admired by the fashion industry and loved by public in general making a real impact on the clothes we wear. He is a decisively modern designer who manage to keep his work comprehensible and challenging. He didn’t merely revive Balenciaga; he reinvented it.

Although there is a lot of buzz about what's next for Ghesquière  (he could end up doing something with LVMH or just take a little break), the designer's next move has not been confirmed. 

A successor has yet to be announced.

Ghesquière (que tenía 26 años cuando se unió a Balenciaga en 1997) y la marca , han confirmado que “ llegaron a la decisión conjunta de finalizar su relación laboral” después de 15 años, que culminará el próximo 30 de Noviembre.

Bajo el liderazgo del propio Cristóbal Balenciaga, la marca fue conocida por su rigor “haute couture” y sus formas esculturales. Balenciaga cerró en 1968 y se retiró. Él es decisivamente un diseñador moderno que consiguió mantener su trabajo comprensible y desafiantemente innovador al mismo tiempo. Él no sólo revivió Balenciaga como marca, la reinventó.

Aunque existen muchas especulaciones sobre qué será lo próximo para Ghesquière ( podría terminar haciendo algo con LVMH, o simplemente tomar un pequeño descanso), el siguiente movimiento del diseñador no ha sido confirmado.
